😳[Relationship Series] I'm An Introvert

30 July 2019

Whether most are aware of this or not - I'm an introvert. I'm not sure if it's just me or this is something a lot of introverts face whenever we have to disclose what sort of person we are, but the reactions we get can sometimes be priceless. Some people who personally know me in real life think it's a far fetched notion and refuse to believe that I am one, while for others, it just makes sense. It's not that hard to picture me enjoying my time with small company, skipping small talks and chatting about something real and quietly excusing myself just to recharge my "social battery" with what a little bit of seclusion can offer.

Being an introvert has its many perks but to be honest, it took a while for me to come around and  acknowledge that part about me. One reason for this is because back then, I honestly didn't like being one. There's actually nothing wrong with being an introvert but the world seems to have a different perspective on that. They label us as shy, lacking of confidence and quiet. "I wish you speak up more" and "You're a little bit quiet, aren't you?" are just some of the comments I think we all have heard of before.

My point here is, we're not seen as sociable creatures in contrast to those with a more bubbly personality that everybody thinks should be the way for everyone else. However, I think it's funny that such expectations are there for us because if everybody is talking all at once, who is actually listening and critically analysing what is being said? And if everybody is talking, it just makes it harder to give turns for others to participate and contribute. We advocate things like acceptance of diversity among people but imposing the idea that being different or at least in this case, an introvert, is defective goes against everything we stand for.

Being an introvert doesn't make you any less successful than others and I think where I stand now is a good proof of that. I don't know if anybody has noticed this but the gap duration between when this post was published and the previous one is pretty big. It has nothing to do with me being busy but I was actually having a pretty hard time to talk about this topic in the best way that I can. It's really personal and that's what made it so difficult because I'm not used to writing about MYSELF.

I recently came across this website by PURE LUCK and for all the introverts out there, it is a safe haven to read up about yourself and know how much you're worth it. I wish I can whip up a better post but I think this is the best that I can do (for now). Until next timeeee, thank you for reading!

  2. I see myself as an introvert as well. Sometimes I felt like it's a sin and envy those who are an extrovert as I see that they're more successful, or at least the ones in my circle. Your write up somehow relieved me and made me realize that we introvert are important too. And thanks for sharing the website, I love it.

    1. Hi Lya! I'm so happy that you found some peace with yourself after reading my post. Like you, I thought that there's something wrong with being myself as an introvert. It's harder for me to communicate with others and I get sociably exhausted when I vibe with extroverts/just very happy, loud bubbly people. But later on in life, I'm learning to accept that I have my own advantages of being an introvert - I have more time to appreciate myself and those around me, people take me seriously when I do voice out, I see things and make them matter. Being an introvert just makes you more appreciative of your life. :) Here's to all the beautiful introvert souls out there!

  5. Yeah, exactly!! I aused feel like being an introvert is something that I surprassed or overcome.Maybe like, practice to talk more or present myself in front of others.. but now, I'm grateful that I'm an introvert because when you think about it, there's really nothing wrong about being one. I think it's so much better being wise while you're talking, observing others while they give their points in that way, we can analyze their view like everyone has different oppinions and it's interesting to actually understand other's view of life.. Btw, I really like your blog's design,it's aesthetically pleasing:D keep up the good work!!!

    2. Hi Nuraina! Thank you for your wonderful feedback. I've returned the favour by following you too! As a fellow introvert, I understand where you're coming from. I used to think that there was something wrong with me because of who I am, a little reserve and always preferring smaller crowds to feel better. But like I've said in my post, being an introvert helps me to see things in detail and make me more aware of my surroundings.

  7. I'm an introvert too. To the point that I hate the sound of my own voice, like when I start talking I realised that I talked too much I have to stop myself cos I feel like I'm exposing myself too much.

I hate taking public transportation alone and but I love to have an alone time at the coffee shop. While my friends are busy swapping stories, I'll just sit there and listen to them although I have so much stuff to share with them.

    1. Sorry for the late reply!!! But gee, I can totally relate to all the scenarios you mentioned! Despite how weird it is to be an introvert, we do enjoy the smaller things in life that others tend to miss out on. That's what so beautiful about us introverts!

  8. sometimes i can be seen as an introvert but at times people would point me as someone extrovert. we all got both actually. it depends on how big of a portion (introvert/extrovert) that u have within you.

    1. Hewo Ray! Forgive meeee for sending such a late reply! I was discussing with my friend the other day and we both agreed at how ridiculous it is that people can't differentiate the many levels of being an introverted person. We have our very sociable, chatty days and there are others when we want quieter moments to ourselves/close company. People who don't know us very well might only see just one of the sides more often than the other.

  9. As an introvert, I can relate to a lot of things mentioned in this post. I totally will spend a lot of time on that Introvert, Dear site later! I've always been searching ways to be an extroverted person even when I say I'm okay with being an introvert. Like you say, being an introvert has its perks but when people point out how I'm not much of a talker, I become uncomfortable with my introversion.

I really appreciate posts like this because it helps me to see why I should be okay with being an introvert and that I can be just as successful as any other extroverts or ambiverts. Thank you for this wonderful post :)

On a personal note, I do believe that introverts actually keep the world spinning in one SANE cycle. We keep the peace with our quiet nature. hehe!

  10. here are my words for intorvert out there.

Hi, Iam Cuya. I am not an introvert but an extrovert.
Just to let you know, a person like me need someone introvert to be friend with.
I enjoyed myself talking and sharing stories with introvert. An introvert person is good in keeping secret (i dunno about others, but some are like that). Why is that so?Because they talk less with people and do not let the secret to burst out. (Eh betul ke ayat kite ni? XD)

An introvert person, can sometime be bubbly person. We use to see them as a quiet person but they sometime actually talk more than we thought! I dunno about you, maybe other introvert are like this. Hehe I have a best friend that is an introvert, and when it comes to the right topic to be talk, she talked a lot dude...sometime with a very good facial expressions!
    Haha...

To all introverts out there, you deserve the best just like others .Believe in yourself, you are more than anything, you are beauty, you are gorgeous,wonderful,spectacular,amazing,bombastic,beautiful..(and i am out of words ) XD
    that 's all.

    loving you from far
    The Extrovert

  11. Hey its such a good posting and really into it !! keep it up , and nah its not just sweet lil talk but its really good :) .

I totally agree , people out there especially the educator always treat introvert like really bad and has no future . Since market nowadays prefer outspoken people . But if all becoming extrovert and hyping around who would become listener and working in silence making masterpiece ?

I have my introvert friend that writing really a good book and I just find out about it and I'm so proud with her .

Btw I self claim myself as ambrivert .

    1. Hello my ambivert friend! Thanks so much for liking this post! I'm so glad I can speak up about something that we all feel needs to be addressed. There's so much to treasure in being an introvert, extrovert or a bit of both like you! Being different means we need each other and pressuring others to conform to one ideal personality just shuts us from accepting possible potential that everybody has. One fine example would be your book author friend! Kudos to her! Being an introvert or something else doesn't mean we lack in anything. It just means that we can succeed in something with our own unique way.
